Dolphin's Nose Trek in Kodaikanal

Dolphin's Nose

We went to kodaikanal from Bengaluru during one of the long weekend in March-16.We traveled in  KSRTC overnight bus to Kodiakanal which reached there by 8 AM. Bus goes through the GHAT section after 6AM and you can capture glimpse of beautiful morning of Western Ghats.

Since places are not very far, we decided to walk for most of the time and  reached our Hotel (Hotel Tamilnadu) in about 15 min. Kodaikanal economy mostly revolves around tourism and you can multiple shops selling home made chocolates/handy crafts etc..

Evening we went to Coaker's walk, Byrant Park and Kodai Lake. Kodai lake is the main tourist point where you can hire a bicycle by paying a nominal amount and can cycle around the circumference of the lake which is nearly 5KM. They have 2 seat bikes along with baby carrier in case you need one :P.

After inquiring at few paces, we got to know that Dolphin nose is about 8 KM from the city and taxi can be hired to go there.

Next morning, we hired one way taxi to Dolphin's nose and planned to come back by trekking. On the route to Dolphin's Nose , there are places like Shola Falls,Lion's Cave etc...we reached trekking spot in 15-20 mins.Taxi drops on the main road, from where there is a downward slope and trek of about 1 KM till Dolphin's Nose.

Trek Route

Trek is little steep and becomes difficult while coming back :P. We had a plan to walk back to the city and started walking on the main road itself after resting for 10 mins. On the way after 2 KMs, there is bridge from where one shortcut goes towards LA SALETH church and by following this shortcut, you can reach City in almost 1.5 hours(3KMs).

It is easy trek and you can trek both ways instead of hiring a taxi for one way. Like all treks, this one also need to be started early for safety.

Places to Eat -

I belong to North India but i found Kodaikanal equally good in food as well. For Breakfast you can stop by any breakfast joint and taste some hot steaming idly/dosas.

For Lunch/Dinner, there are many good restaurants ASTORIA,TAVA, MUCHEZ. TAVA and MUCHEZ are on PT road which is known to people as Sunday Market Road.
